As the fourth anniversary of the day Matthew Weaver Jr. disappeared approached, family members were alerted to posts on social media that may lead to clues that Matthew’s remains could possibly be in an area not far from where he went missing.
Ben Kuo, a HAM radio operator and satellite imagery expert who gained worldwide notoriety when a missing hiker posted a photo and Kuo was able to track his location and guide the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to the area. The hiker was successfully rescued and shortly thereafter, a branch of the Sheriff’s Department, Malibu Search and Rescue, reached out to Kuo to use his expertise as a volunteer on the team.
At the beginning of August, Kuo, who had an impressive following on Twitter before the story of missing hiker made the news, was instrumental in providing critical emergency informati0n during the Woolsey fire and was also extremely helpful in assisting me in the Malibu Creek State Park Shootings investigation by creating maps with locations of reported shots fired.
Concerned citizens reached out to Kuo on social media directing him to drone footage in an effort to potentially find Weaver who went missing on August 1oth, 2018 in Dark Canyon.
Shortly thereafter, Kuo, as a private citizen, posted some of his observations of possible remains and then shortly after took the posts down from Twitter and alerted the Lost Hills Station hoping to prompt some action in the case.
